I Want to be Like Dagny When I Grow Up!
Since there were limited showings of Atlas Shrugged here in Tennessee, my friends and I drove about 90 miles to see the film yesterday. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! It's been a long time since I've been to see a movie that ended with thunderous applause from the audience.
I know the critics have given the movie terrible reviews, and the Hollywood elite didn't want to touch it. But you know what, that's all the more reason to go see it. I love nothing more than voting with my wallet and rooting for an underdog. Kind of gives Hollywood the middle finger, you know?
Anyway, the movie totally rocked. I loved the lead characters, and I am particularly smitten with Dagny Taggart. This hard charging business woman was an inspiring reminder that hard work and intellect pay off. It also really drives home the point that other people may try to drag you down to their level. A true visionary refuses to allow it, and pushes through all obstacles to realize the dream. (I'm keeping this simple, and not getting into the broader social implications of the film.)
I'm thinking of framing a picture of Dagny for my office as a reminder to stay focused on the big picture. She will serve as great inspiration on the days when petty people try and rain on my parade.
From now on I'll be asking, "What Would Dagny Do?"
