Unforgettable moments in the Cookeville Foreclosure
One of the things I enjoy about working in real estate is that every day is different. The job has ups and downs, and sometimes it also has some unusual surprises. Sometimes those surprises reach out and touch the heart.
I'm sure many of you have figured out by now that I list foreclosures. They make up a fairly good chunk of my business. If there's one thing I've learned about in working with foreclosures, it's that bad things happen to good people. It might surprise you how often a home is lost in foreclosure due to illness or loss of job.
Earlier this month I was assigned a new foreclosure property to sell. Thankfully it was already vacant when I arrived. It's an old house that needs work and the bank listed it in the $30k range. Not anybody's dream home, but a home nevertheless.
Last night I receive a call about that house. It was 8pm and already dark. The caller explained that it used to be his house, and he'd just finished mowing the lawn for me. He went on to explain that the grass had gotten really high, and he knew there were bad places in the yard. He worried that whomever came to mow then lawn wouldn't be able to see the dangers lurking in the tall grass, and might tear up their lawnmower.
Can you imagine? This man has lost this property in foreclosure, and still has the compassion to think about the people who have to maintain the home until it sells. Someone who has lost everything still has the heart to give to others.
This was a phone call I will never forget. It was inspiration to try and be more human, to give more to others.
The human capacity for love and compassion is a truly amazing thing, and inspiration sometimes comes from the most unexpected places.
